KOCHI, Jan 21 — The Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini embarked on a landmark transoceanic odyssey on Wednesday, casting off from the Southern Naval Command in Kochi to begin 'Lokayan 26', a ten-month global expedition designed to showcase India's maritime heritage.
The expedition was formally flagged off by Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command. Amidst the stirring notes of the Naval Band, the majestic three-masted barque unfurled her sails to begin the voyage.
A Voyage of Diplomacy
'Lokayan 26' is conceived in the spirit of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (The World is One Family). The voyage aims to strengthen maritime cooperation and trust with partner nations.
"INS Sudarshini is India's 'Ambassador at Large'," Vice Admiral Saxena stated. "This voyage will transcend oceans and borders, carrying the message of peace and solidarity to every port it touches."
Training the Next Generation
The grueling ten-month voyage will test the mettle of the crew and cadets onboard, imparting essential skills in seamanship and navigation. The ceremony was attended by senior naval officers and families of the crew, featuring the unveiling of a special Lokayan 26 commemorative plaque.
